MakE your own nut milk In 1..2..3

I am the first one to admit that buying a carton of nut milk is convenient and easy! That said, most things we buy are a convenience, but is there a trade off? Usually. Almost always. In the case of nut milks, the disadvantage to buying them is that with the convenience we also get preservatives, gums and other additives, even in the cleanest of products, not to mention the environmental toll which is significant.
Making your own nut milk is easy, and much less complicated and time consuming than you may think!
Take 2 cups of your preferred nut, soak them in filtered water for anywhere from 2-24 hours. Rinse them, add them to a blender with 5 cups of fresh filtered water, a dash of cinnamon, a couple of dates if you like, and blend away until there is a creamy consistency. Strain in a nut milk bag, or cheesecloth, pour into your favourite charming bottle, and there you have it. It will keep for several days in the fridge, but not weeks like the preserved kind, so be sure to use and enjoy in your blended coffee or tea drinks, as a smoothie base or on whatever recipe calls for regular milk.
Here are some suggestions for a few of my favourite, simple and delicious treats which call for nut milk!
