diy for dry scalp!

If you’re anything like me and you spent time in the sun and surf this summer, you may be finding that your head is feeling dry! Yes now! Even though the summer rays and salty water can dry us out, we are often that much more conscious of hydrating with after-sun care. Hair oil and body butters are part of my daily summer wellness routine. As we move through the cooler months, skin can often feel dry and undernourished. Personally, my scalp needs extra attention at this time of year. The following recipe helps soothe and calm scalp dryness. Use a bottle with a dropper for easy application, or simply massage in with your fingertips. I have been applying this daily for the last 2 weeks or so and it has made a HUGE difference! I tweaked it until I found the perfect formula for me. Play with the amounts based on your needs and scalp sensitivity.

**Always use pure, high quality oils and ask an experienced practitioner if you are in doubt! Plants essences are powerful and must always be used with respect.

In a 1-ounce bottle start with a base of approximately:

2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp fractionated (liquid) coconut oil and 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar. ACV is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, making it a great scalp cleanser. The other oils are hydrating and can add softness to the hair. To this mixture, add the following essential oils:

5-7 drops peppermint - anti-inflammatory, soothes itchiness

5-7 drops rosemary - anti-fungal, astringent, helps reduce build-up

5-7 drops tea tree - anti-fungal, anti-septic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, analgesic

5 drops frankincense or lavender - anti-inflammatory, calming, nourishing for the skin and scalp

5 drops cedarwood - anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, astringent, cleansing

Apply with a dropper or directly massage in. Let the oils sink in and do their magic anywhere from 15 minutes to a few hours depending on your needs and comfort. Shampoo as normal. Enjoy your newly cleansed and refreshed scalp!
